Bio Systems containers for sharps disposal

Stericycle’s Bio Systems reusable sharps containers are UN approved and can be used up to 600 times after washing and disinfection, as opposed to single use containers which are used once then sealed and incinerated.

Yellow lidded container

Yellow lidded containers are used for medicinally contaminated sharps (not cytotoxic or cytostatic) .

Examples of medicinally contaminated sharps include:

  • Syringes
  • Razors
  • Scissors/blades
  • Medicinal bottles
  • Large instruments 
  • IV bags / giving sets 

Available in sizes; 7.5L, 15L and 30.2L

Orange lidded container

Infectious or potentially infectious soft clinical waste contaminated with blood/bodily fluids e.g. dressings, swabs, wipes, gloves, gowns, masks, aprons, and blood bags.

Orange-stream waste can be sent for disinfection by alternative treatment at a suitably authorised facility.

Purple lidded container

Purple lidded containers are used for hazardous (cytotoxic / cytostatic) medicinal waste.

 

Examples include:

  • Medicine contaminated infusion bag
  • Tablets and other medicines
  • Syringes and needles
  • Contaminated PPE

Available in sizes; 7.5L, 15L and 30.2L

Blue lidded container

Blue lidded containers are used for discarded pharmaceuticals.

 

Examples include:

  • Out of date medicine 
  • Returned medicine
  • Medicine bottles
  • Vials

Available in sizes; 7.5L, 15L and 30.2L

White lidded container

White lidded containers are used for single use metal instruments for recycling. 

Available in  30.2L

Stericycle Bio Systems containers are UN-approved and designed to be used up to 600 times after washing and disinfection.

They are not single use containers that require incineration and therefore should NEVER be placed in wheeled bins.
