We’re pleased to announce that our clinical waste treatment site in Cumbernauld has reopened today after more than four years of closure. The Scottish site is capable of processing 24 tonnes of clinical waste per day, which boosts available capacity.
It also means the UK’s clinical waste sector will be better equipped to manage any unforeseen issues affecting capacity that may arise.
The Cumbernauld site can run 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and will process clinical waste through a hot oil clave, which is used for specific waste types that do not require incineration. The clinical waste is inspected and shredded, before moving through a heat disinfection unit that uses hot oil to heat it.
The reopening of the Cumbernauld plant means that we can now offer services to more customers in the area. The site is located north of Glasgow near a major road network, which is beneficial for transporting clinical waste from around Scotland and the north of England.
