Clinical Waste Bags

It is important to identify and stream your clinical waste correctly in order to avoid harm to people or the environment - and to avoid the risk of fines.

Yellow Waste Bags

Infectious or potentially infectious clinical waste contaminated with chemicals or pharmaceutical / medicinal wastes e.g. medicated dressings, iodine dressings, swabs, wipes contrast media.

Yellow-stream waste must be sent for incineration at a suitably authorised facility.

Orange Waste Bags

Orange clinical waste bags are for infectious or potentially infectious soft clinical waste contaminated with blood/bodily fluids e.g. dressings, swabs, wipes, gloves, gowns, masks, aprons, and blood bags.

Orange-stream waste can be sent for disinfection by alternative treatment at a suitably authorised facility.

Tiger bags

Offensive, non-infectious waste such as nappies and incontinence pads, or soft items contaminated with offensive clinical waste.

Tiger-stream waste may be sent for incineration at ‘energy from waste’ (EfW) facilities.

Black bags

General waste such as flowers, paper hand towels, packaging, newspapers. Do not dispose of clinical waste in domestic waste bags as this can spread disease.
